MasterCraft Mini League and Awards Evening Info.
Written by Travis Fisher    Tuesday, 27 March 2012 20:44    PDF Print E-mail
Hi All

The date for the next mini league has been changed to Sunday, the 15th of April 2012. This will be the last Satellite mini league for the season.

The date for the end of season awards evening and dinner has been set down for Friday, the 18th of May 2012.  It will happen somewhere in Hill Crest, but I need to know exactly how many people are going to attend so I can  find a suitable venue. Wheather you have skied one mini league or all of them, there will be a range of prizes to be won. So if you are going to attend, please email me(Travis), on  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the number of people from your family(including yourself) that are going to attend the awards evening and dinner on Friday, the 18th of May 2012.  Further details will be given out, once we have a venue.

For the mini league on Sunday, the 15th of April, Mike Friedman from Broderick Marine, the importers of MasterCraft have kindly offered us the use of the MasterCraft Pro Star 197 again, so if you haven’t skied behind this amazing boat yet,  come and try it out!.

Skiers Registration will take place from 7:00 am to 9:00am.
Skiing will start at 7:30am.
The skiing order will be the order that you pay your money, so as you arrive, you will sign up and join the queue to ski.   You can arrive any time up untill 9.00 a.m. to register.
You will still get 2 rounds of “4 passes” in each round.
The second round will commence immediately after the first round is completed and will be in the same starting order as the first round, so the skiers who registered first will be finished first.

We are doing away with the skiers briefing, so if you have any questions on the day please come and ask me.   I will explain the way it all works to the new skiers individually.

There will still be a prize giving after the completion of the skiing, and we ask that you stay for this, as we have lots of sponsored prizes and trophies to hand out.

Also, a reminder of the All African Championships and South African Championships taking place next weekend at Satellite(6th to 9th April 2012).  Many of our KZN skiers are going to be skiing, so come out, watch and support! Skiing starts at 8:00am and will probably continue on until about 4:00pm daily.

See you all on the 15th April 2012

If you have any questions, please give me call or email me.

KZN Colours Qualification Standards
Written by Travis Fisher    Wednesday, 14 March 2012 15:30    PDF Print E-mail

For a slalom single eventer it is the 75% column, so eg boys U17 it is 6x16. For tricks it is the 40% and jump the 60% for single eventers. Then they have columns for 80% of each of these and that is for 3 eventers. For 2 eventers there is no column but we should follow the criteria rules which requires 90%. So eg a 3 eventer in JB needs 0x58, 2000 trick points and a 20m jump.

Hi All

Due to the increase in the number of participants at the mini league, and to try and accommodate those skiers who cannot spend the whole day at the dam, we have decided to start skiing on a first come first served basis from 7.30 a.m. for our next mini league on Sunday 26 February.

Busy summer water ski season in KZN.
Written by Travis Fisher    Tuesday, 31 January 2012 21:01    PDF Print E-mail

KZN tournament water skiers have a full program of standings list and intermediate competitions to look forward to.

January with some of the country’s top skiers in action. Noteworthy performances included James Stokes scoring a personal best of 2 on 12m @ 58km/h and 3 senior men running 12m @ 55km/h.

Massive growth in Slalom Skiing in KZN

The slalom mini leagues being organized in KZN have shown incredible growth over the past year.  The January mini league held at Satellite Dam attracted 32 entrants, and there are now more than 50 skiers ranging in age from 8 to 60 years old, competing in the mini leagues in KZN. With everything working on a handicap system, even the beginners can compete with the top skiers.

A number of skiers who started off in the mini league have already progressed to entering competitions at provincial level, and looking at the results there are a number of potential National Champions progressing through the ranks.

Results of the Satellite Dam 29 January Mini League:

Super League Winner: Wayne Cammidge

Qualifying League Winner: Craig Gordon

League Winner: Thomas Copley

Mini League Winner: Gary Lowe

With the resurgence of interest in Slalom skiing in KZN there are now a number of places where you can hone your skills through the slalom course.

  • Inanda Dam, Durban Bay
  • Albert Falls, Kyalami Bay
  • Midmar
  • Thornlea Dam
  • Bird Valley Estate, Satellite Dam. Home to KZN’s top skiers as well as the site that shall be hosting the 2012 All African Water Ski Championships from 6-9 April 2012.

This means that most of the dams in central KZN now have slalom courses and at least 4 of them have inboard boats which are similar to the ones used in competition.

An active KZN Water-Ski Committee has been formed and is in the process of securing discounts with boating insurance companies as well as discounts on water ski gear at local shops if you are a member of KZN Water-Ski.

A special thanks to Travis Fisher, who is the driving force behind all of the above as well as everyone else involved .
